i'm in the market for a firewire interface to dump recordings for my analog 8-track into 8 discrete tracks on the computer. i was thinking about picking up a multimix 16 firewire for this purpose, since i could also use it as a mixer and also record straight onto the computer if i felt like it. is this a bad idea? should i just buy a motu interface or something instead?

That depends. Do you need the ability to mix? If you have no need for a mixer, then you'll probablt be able to get something that will give a bit better preamps and stuff for the same money without mixing abilities.

On the other hand, if you want a mixer, the multimix series are great. I have the Alesis Multmix 8 Firewire myself and I love it. I use it a lot and I'm very satisfied with the sound quality I get from it.

well, the multimix costs about the same or less than most quality firewire interfaces that i saw out there. i figured it would be smart to go with one of those, since i'll get the interface, firewire mixer, and an analog mixer all in one package.

Like I said, I'm very happy with mine. As long as your not looking for the audiophile sound quality I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.

And you can use it live too!

Anybody using it with an intel mac? How does it work with it?
