Hey What's up Guys,

I was looking over at a small mixer, "Alesis MultiMix 8" and I saw that it works through USB, so a few questions came up.

1. Is there a disadvantage when recording through USB? If so can you please explain a little?

2. Is this a good entry level mixer?

3. can you please recommend one, for the price range of $100-200.

Thanks.

I own this mixer and i must say it is a wonderful place to begin...i am a novice in recording but its very reliable and is a great way to get into your computer fairly inexpensively while also providing you with some EQ and interesting little effects to play with...some users have complained of hum and other noises it seems to introduce into a recording but i have not experienced these problems at all..the quality of sound is good if not great....its a great mixer and for a beginner it will serve you well...again i am no expert and know very little about recording...but from beginner to beginner...its great

i love the thing

1.i think recording through usb is fine... it gets the job done... and as long as you have a fast computer its good......
2.its a GREAT entry level mixer...
3.id say go with the alesis......

what mics do you plan on using?

I just ordered the multimix 8 firewire version. You should definatly get that instead because it will transfer much smoother during recording and you cannot multi-track with the usb one. Are you using a desktop or laptop?

I would say don't buy the firewire version. It may work.. but it may not. It's a coin toss, and to try to get it fixed/replaced/working will cost you as much as the initial mixer. (Speaking from very frustated experience...)

this a great mixer IIIIFFFFF you know how to set the levels.

on any given track....

1. turn the volume all the way down
2. have some one play/sing and turn the gain up until you clip then roll it back to right below when it clipped.
3. adjust volumes from there.

doing this will get you the most out of the preamps.

Just remember that this isn't a "mixer for mixing" its more of a preamp/interface. its very good for drums due to the multiple inputs.
