Perhaps there is an answer/ perhaps not.
I started with a Multimix 8 Firewire, and as I needed more inputs I purchased a Multimix 12 (I'm running CuBase 64 on Windows 7/64 and switch to an Edirol FA 101 when Mastering 5.1. I'm using the S/PDIF output from the 12 to the FA101 then out to my speakers for monitoring).
Just for the hell of it I daisy chained the Multimix 8 to the 12 Firewire, and was surprised and delighted that both mixer ports registered on the VST Audio System, and could be assigned as 24 inputs (incl the Main Mix inputs) and the four Main Outs. My understanding was that only the M-Audio Delta PCI cards allowed you to do this, and on the Alesis FAQ's it is specific that this can't be done (at the present time [whenever that was])
That was the upside......
However, only the faders are active on the 8 (Gain, EQ & Pan) which is OK, as this is all I really need. Now the downside......When recording & monitoring the Multimix 8 through the Multimix 12 I am getting both input & output although the recording is fine.
Does anyone know how I could set the mixers up to correct this??

Multimix12 & 8 Firewire = 24 seperate tracks works

Yes, it really does work in Cubase 5/64 & Windows 7/64 (latest driver) except for a monitoring issue.......

I decided I was perhaps too long-winded in my original post to get a response....
