Hi Gang.

This is easily the best messageboard for musicians on the internet. The advice and help given amongst the subscribers is impressive.

Now, I have bought an Alesis Midiverb 4, and it is very good value for money (thanks Mike Keane in Liverpool, you said I wouldn't be disappointed).

Some of the preset programs are a bit harsh for my liking. I was wondering if anyone has tailored some of the preset parameters to make them more useable, and whether they would be kind enough to share their tweakings with the rest of us who have a Midiverb 4?

I must say that my recordings on my Zoom MRS-1044 are improved by using the Midiverb 4, but nevertheless feel sure that the preset programs can be coaxed into being made more attractive. Can anyone help, please?

Regards,
Baz in England.

Hi Baz!

It really all depends on the particular song the effect is for. Noone can tell you how to alter the sounds without hearing the songs and verb sounds you are considering. Now that you own a good reverb learn it inside out and save every preset you change. Don't be afraid, the terms will make alot more sense once you start messing with them. No matter what you do you can't really mess up as most all 'verb boxes come with a 'revert to factory presets' command somewhere.

Tweak away, use those ears and enjoy.

Hey Barry,
My friend is planning on getting the Alesis Midiverb 4 also. He's mainly looking for a 5-up harmonizer. How's the harmonizer on the Alesis unit? Will it do the 5-up just fine? He's getting rid of his digitech whammy. Thanks.

Almost none of the presets are usable on the MV IV. I have found two that I have used. All others need adjustment for whatever music and instrument and mix you are recording.

The latest usable preset I found was #100 Plate. It sounded very good used with my Kurzweil for solo piano. But again, it will depend upon the song. This same plate would not do for a balllad in a different style of music.

Many need the pre-delay tweaked, and the tails are another problem I've found with most of the pre-sets.

I have a MV III in-route from the seller. I hope that it sounds as good as the MV IV. It will also probably need nearly every patch tweaked, but that's OK.

Hi Gang.

Sennheiser is about right. Few if any of the presets are to my liking. I have experimented with my MV4 and have come to the conclusion that it's best to do just that and store the results you are satisfied with.

Keeping a written note of settings and the user program store name/number you have designated the tweaked (what a lovely word) program to, will probably help.

Nevertheless, I still think it is a good little reverb/effects box.

Thanks for your replies.
Baz.

I'd be interested in hearing where in the recording chain or process you guys are using the MV4. I've owned one for about 5 years, and haven't used it yet for recording...just in a live band situation I was in. I get real nervous about recording effects to track.

I agree about the presets pretty much being useless without tweaks.

My MV III and MV IV are both on Aux Sends. Everything is recorded dry and effects are added during the mix-down.

I use Sonar on a DAW, so I'm pretty much screwed on inserting during mixdown. I wish I could do that though...plugins are alright, but it would be nice to use this too in mixes. I'll find a use I'm sure ;) Maybe record some of that reverse verb live to track...

Actually you can insert outboard gear during mixdown using Sonar on a DAW. Someone from Cakewalk posted the procedure on the Cakewalk forum a while back. I printed it out, but can't find where I put it. You could probably send an email to Cakewalk tech support and get the info from them.

When you call it the MV this and that, remember that there are the Microverb series too.
