Alesis iO/26 Problem (recording)

I am running snow leopard and I have all of the latest updates and drivers.
When I plug the Firewire cable in the green light turns on and indicates power. When I play my drums through the mics, the Alesis recognizes but I cant record. The amber light that is suppose to indicate a MIDI connection doesn't light up and my garageband/computer do not recognize the interface being plugged in. HELP!?!?!?!? PLEASE!! lol

I had similar problems at first . . . You need to power on and plug in the Alesis before the Computer, and select it as the default audio device in OS. You installed all the Drivers right? Got the latest ones? Try different drivers and even combos of them. I know its weird but I only got it working by installing the old drivers that come with the IO 26 and the new ones off the website simultaneously. The Hardware Monitoring program from one worked and the Device config from another. Weird eh? I'm not recommending that but just saying you have to fiddle with these things sometimes lol
