Sometimes on the HD 24 when I install a hard drive it wont load and it says that there is a problem with the jumper (inside the hard drive). I'll put it in again and most times it is ok! Anyone had this issue??

I've not had that problem, or any problems for that matter with mine. Sounds like it means the jumper that makes a drive either the master or slave drive. What position is the jumper in?

Hi Trackrat..before I start,I wrote on anothe4r board that I really like your song.."Back at You" I think it was called. Very cool tune..very Beatlish. Excellent recording..great!! OK, I have placed the jumper on master not slave. These are (2) 60 gig IBM deskstar DRIVES. They both do the same thing. I have not ever had this problem before. As I said what is weird is if I dismount the drive and reinstall it, it will usually be ok! Maybe it is an IBM issue. These hard drives are hard because there are so many choices to jumper,it will have 15 or 16 head??? on one half of the drive and other side has things like 32 gig. This wont make sense maybe. It seems that if it will install ok after 2 or 3 trys it would not be the jumper in the wrong place...right??

Thanks for the props. I really appriciate that.
I have an IBM drive setting around here and I think I'm going to slide it in the HD24 and see what it does. Hmmmmm...............

jmorris,

I've had a couple issues where my main drive will just "disconnect" when sitting idle... It has never done it while playing back or recording... but a couple of times it has all of the sudden not been available... I've had to pull the caddy out and put it back in to get it to show up...

strange.

I spoke to IBM today and the girl said it sounded like a configuation issue. She told me to jumper it to the 16 head master position. I checked and that is where I have it set. I switched it to 15 head master and installed and tried it. I installed it 3 times and on the 3rd time it did the same....jumper failure, pulled iy out and reinstalled it and it was fine. It may be a software issue the IBM girl said. The HD24 may not be able to handle 15 head so go to 16 head but that is where I had it set. Does not seem to matter. I dont know at this point. It is a 60 gig and it says 4.8 hours so I assume it will work ok once it mounts the hard drive ok. Im going to record my band live in 2 weeks and I dont want this thing to fail due to a hard drive issue. Velvet, I have never had mine go idle...yet! jIM

jmorris...

Strange about your drive. You could always just try multing a bunch of stuff to it and record a couple of hours to see what it does.

I've had a couple "strange" issues with mine (none that have caused it to not function) in comparison to my old trusty black face ADATs... but I've got to tell you... we have been able to get TONS more done each session with this thing... its so nice to jump around and cut and paste etc.
