Alesis Firewire mixer with Garage Band?

Hello, I thinking about getting an Alesis Firewire mixer for my band so we can record better. We currently use this little sony mic from a minidisc player that goes directly into computer which records in Garage Band. So we basically just record one live track...but we have tried to do some overdubbing which sounds alright but I know it can sound better with the mixer and proper mics. My question is though can you record with the Alesis Firewire Mixer using Garage Band?

I know your thread is an old one, but I have an Alesis MultiMix16 Firewire and Garage Band works well. Running on a Mac Pro with Leopard. Just thought I'd offer my 2 cents worth.
