Alesis DM6 for a beginner

Hi all,
Am new here and new to drumming. I've been interested in learning drums for a couple of months now. Ive been playing guitar for 10+ years. The style of music I play is everything from funk to metal. I am open to other suggestions aswell, the reason I chose the DM6 is due to its popularity. I dont want to spend much more money till I know that I am committed to drumming. My neighbour has a DM10 and its great but its a little more than I'd like to spend right now.

My criteria is simple:
(1) It should be decent enough for a beginner to beginner/intermediate level, so that I dont feel like I have to switch after 6 months
(2) It should allow for me to use my own double bass pedal
(3) I can connect it to a VST so I can use samples.

Any advise/suggestions are welcome.

The dm6 is decent, I have used one at school. I think it can connect to a computer via usb but not MIDI. It does feel a bit rickety so if you get one I advise you don't beat too hard on it.
