Will the D4 trigger midi notes in Sonar the same as the DM5 will? All I want is something to throw a kick note into Sonar to make an extra input. Its need to be fast too.

It's been years since I've actually compared a D4 to a DM5 - but if I recall the MIDI application are the same (the DM5 just have different sounds)
So in answer to your question - yes the D4 can send a MIDI note to Sonar
