Alesis AM2 and CAD CM217

They seem to have different freq range with the Alesis going up to 18,000.

That said, I guess they're out of the same chinese factory with each player putting their own brand on them. Joe Meek have a similar pair that seem to pop up with other brands on them.

I think Alesis used to do a deal with Groove Tubes, and Guitar Factory used to brand Groove Tubes as Sterling Audio ..... I think.

A lot of the CAD mics can be found on the net in China called Ning Bao or something like that. Fairly cheap but some may be OK.

What do you think of the AM2, I guess that's all that really matters ?
 
CAD manufactures many of their mics in China, though I understand they're starting to shift manufacturing back to the U.S. I'm not sure if that's due to quality control, due to Chinese manufacturers producing knock offs of their products and selling them to other companies, or due to some combination of the above....

However, those are definitely not the same mic. The CAD mics you're talking about have a reduced frequency response tailored specifically for use on drums. They're not general-purpose recording microphones.
