Hello Everybody,

does anybody know, if there are any signals an the optical output from the analog inputs without recording/playback? I was thinking of using an ADAT as an AD/DA Converter with an ADAT PCI Card for recording in the PC.

Thanx in advance,

.mo

You can absolutely do that, as long as you set ALL INPUT for the monitoring mode...

actually, i think this has become the adats only use now days. it is a cheap way to add extra ad coversion to a soundcard with lightpipe.

That was fast! Thank you both. Do you have any recommodations about the type (blackface, lx, xt..)? I new to the hole product and there seem to be no overvier/comparison between them on the web.

The XT20 and M20 units have the better converters (compared to the blackfaces or the XTs).....

Sorry, I forgot something:
Is it also possible to have the other way around - Sending the optical input to the analog outputs?

Thanx again,

.mo

if you do not already have these items, i would not buy them just for this purpose. there are lots of better options. specially since the adats and adat pci card are not supported by alesis anymore.

hmm,
I was planning to have an system with 8 IO's in the beginning with the otion to increase the numver of channels later. My lastest thought was a Marian Marc A with an Behringer ADA8000.
If you have any suggestion I'd be glad to hear them. It shouldn be to expensive ;)

grettings, mo.

I have a rather old ADAT XT (not XT 20) and I plugged it in to my new 002 rack for the first time today and something wierd happened. When I hit record on one of the tracks on the computer there is a little static noise, almost usable but not as good as when I use the 002's inputs. When I hit record on a second track the clipping or static gets way worse. When I enable 4 tracks at once it sounds like a string of firecrackers going off. Is my ADAT hopeless or is there something I am doing wrong? I used the ALL input option and expiremented quite a bit.

I'm running my signal into a Mackie 1604 VLZ into the ADAT.

That sounds like a digital clocking issue. You may also have the ADAT set at 48khz (ADAT default) while the Digi 002 is set at 44.1 khz. Make sure that you only have one master clock in your setup at a time. Without manually changing it, the ADAT will want to be the master, but I would advise using the digi as the clock master.

Yup. With my system the mixer pres feed an ADAT, which feeds the 002 via lightpipt. For playback the 002 feeds the ADAT via lightpipe, which plays back on 8 channels of the mixer.

Kinda kicks butt, actually. 20 bit ADATs are pretty cheap and then, if the transport and everything else works, you have a backup recording system to boot. Mine has saved my butt twice so far...

Take care,
Chris

Thanks. That helped big time.

..One direction only at a time per ADAT correct?

Yup. It either listens to the analog inputs or the digital inputs. Seems odd to me that I've never had a problem with this, but I never have. I usually don't need to record on an adat channel for overdubs- I just route my inputs through the analog or S/PDIF ins on the 002.
