I have been in a recording rock band for years and am very experienced with studios...although I am not an experienced engineer

I got the MK2's as I trusted the name and thought they looked pretty cool, and of course £269 was a great price for active speakers

Am I right in thinking that these Monitors kick arse! ...warm solid bottom end...and clear top and mid range...when I listen to music on other speakers now I feel so picky.

My friend has some monitors that cost just under a grand and although I have not told him..I cant see the difference with them and my MK2s!

am I right or are my ears still learning?

Having said that I am a believer that there is no point in mixing on something that sounds fantastic as most people car speakers are not fantastic!
 
flight, I also own a pair of MKII's and love them! I get really solid mixes with them and they ARe affordable for your run of the mill project studio. They are flat response monitors, which means they let you hear exactly what you are recording. This means, that everything should sound the same on all types of speakers, shitty ones, car speakers, home stereo, etc. That is the point of flat response monitors. Gotta love em! the dude.

I find when i hear other records on them ..i hear the real deal.

its good to use these speakers to hear music as it sets a standard for your ears.

i would only get another pare if i wanted a much bigger set to blast out things at the end of a mix.....just to show it off...but the MK2 like you say are great to mix.

do you know of any cheep active moniters i can use for just taking to a room and recording a drum kit, i would still like to hear what i record so when i take them back to my home set up...what i have recorded still sounds cool through my MK2s ?...ESI do a cheep pare that are meant to sound pretty cool
 
In the other equipment forum some ppl acted like I was an idiot loving this speakers, but I haven't regret buying them a second. They give good sparkle in the Highs, with more bass than other nearfields in that price range. And for active speakers, they are ridiculously cheap.

I have been to loads of studios and these are not bad at all.

the only reason I would buy another set is If I wanted some real big monitors to blast out now and again....as for mixing on these I find the only thing you got to watch is they pick up the bass quite allot ...so you got to think allot of bass on these means its just right on a Hi Fi speaker....but I guess all monitors have there own characteristics that you learn more about the more you mix

I would have to be very blown away buy a £800 pare to make me dig into my pocket now.
 
I was just going to ask the forum if those monitors are ok!We have special offer in our AudioPro store, the pair costs 500 $! I think i'll take them!
 
if yours sound as good as a pair of 1000 dollar ones, then why would they make 1000 dollar monitors?
 
There was some problem with the original M1 actives that gave these a bad reputation, but I don't know the details. Something was failure-prone and I heard a lot of bad-mouthing of them on rec.audio.pro. There were a huge number of "factory refurb" M1 actives dumped on eBay a couple of years ago, presumably repaired returns for whatever this problem was.

I haven't heard of this with the M1 MkII actives, which seem to have a reasonably decent reputation for their price range.

I got a lightly-used pair of M1 MkII actives for US$230 last year and they seem to me to be worth the money.

They do not sound that great in my studio, but how monitors sound is largely a function of their acoustic environment, and I know mine is far from optimum.
 
Monitors are "hyped" in the low end and do not provide accuracy in the highs either. Just my opion but, if they work for you and your happy...that's all that matters. :cool:

At some point you will want to graduate to something better.
