Can't tell and don't know for sure but if that 1204fx has insert capability I would use it there but that is for a live situation.
I wouldn't use the 3630 for recording.

Is this for recording or live sound?

There are no inserts that I can find on the 1204FX so all you can do is put it on the output and compress the whole mix. It's not a particularly good compressor so for recording you will be better off using a plugin. I've never really found compressors useful over a live mix. They're great on individual channels but your board doesn't have the ability.

no insert on the mixer only has aux sends and aux returns, on the compressor it has input and output

Thanks a lot for all your replies

The 3630 always gets a bad vibe here, but I own 3 of them and use them all the time both for live sound and in the studio. However it is never placed anywhere near bass guitar.

What are you trying to compress, the stereo mix, a channel?

Cheers
Alan.

I saw in diagram you did but not seem to be working I don't know why unless the compressor is bad, this is the connection I did

AUX 2 from MIXER to Chanel A compressor Input and the A output back to LEFT/Mono AUX Returns 1
AUX 1 from MIXER to Chanel B compressor Input and the B output back to RIGHT/Mono AUX Returns 1
any help or correction would be appreciated, Thanks you all again

OK, have you tried connecting the compressor to the mixer using its side chain input? You can also try this if it works. In this case you need a Y cable with TRS insert on one end and two mono plugs on the other end which you will connect to aux sends and return of the Xenyx 1204FX mixer. For details, you can see the screenshot here: How to connect Alesis 3630 compressor to Behringer Xenyx 1204FX mixer? - Music Production Help Q&A

Refer to the updated section regarding the use of its side chain input. Good luck.

I don't have Y cable, I'll go pick up one tonight and try hope it work, will let you know

Thanks again

At best that would be an extremely unusual way to connect a compressor. More likely it won't do anything useful for you.

Thank very much another thing I want to ask you is
what is the best way to a good sound from my microphone, any other extra equipment I need or something that you know, me myself I don't know much about this things. what I have right now is Mixer, Amplifier, Speakers and Microphone that it.
any suggestion what do I need beside these. just let you know it only for music and singing karaoke.

Thanks

Compressors are great tools but you need a board than can connect to one through channel inserts to use it properly. And they take a skilled and experienced operator listening from the audience to really make them sound good.

If you have a good voice all you should need is a good mic, a clean signal path with a bit of eq and decent speakers. Learn some mic technique for controlling your dynamics and you can pretty much do without compression.

Why don't you just plug the stereo output from the behringer 1204fx into the input of the 3630, left to left right to right.

Select the stereo link button on the compressor, this way the lefthand controls of the compressor control both channels so that they act the same on both left and right.

Plug the output of the compressor into the power amp or powered speakers you are using.

Alan.

Because if you have one very dynamic element in the mix (karaoke vocal) and one not so dynamic element in the mix (karaoke tracks) the first one will make the second one pump horribly.

I'm only talking about a bit of stereo buss compression not a slam dunk compression. Just to keep the levels under control. Like having a bus compression on a live mix.

There is no other way to connect the 3630 to this mixer.

Bus compression on a live mix sucks unless dynamic differences are addressed at the channel level. Enough compression to do anything meaningful to the vocal with be more than enough to make the tracks pump audibly, so why bother? The OP's best bet is to use good mic technique when he's singing and to ride the fader when somebody else is signing.

I don't disagree, I was telling him the only way you can connect the 3630 and with a little care it could help and it could help with not blowing up the PA system with uncontrolled singing (shouting) into the mic. I also agree with why bother.

Don't forget this is karaoke.
