what is the best way to do this? I have a project on the alesis started and I use sonar. But someone wants to take it into protools. I have a motu 2408 mkIII but that wont do me any good. Am I limited to going into sonar 3 and doing the OMF thing?

use adat optical outs into the adat optical ins of an 002 or HD system.

if you dont have a protools system then yes the best way is to send it to sonor 3 and export it into OMF. It works really well actually.

Danny

I did that

Danny. It worked once, then I get these errors. Something like " error signature AppName". it sends error report then shuts down sonar.I wanted to try the OMF export so I exported a song into OMF 2 on CD. Then when to Guitar Center to import into there protools system . It would not take it as there protools was like an older version. I came back and tried to export to OMF 1 which I read is compatable with older protools versions. That is when all hell broke loose and all I get is erros messages when I try to OMF export. Any clue?? Jim

If it doesnt work in OMF, i would just export the waves individually with 0 Time stamping. It takes a little more time and it doesnt save track names and stuff but it works well. When you import it to protools you just need to align it to 0. It should all align well. I would do a quick test to make sure you time stamp it right before doing the whole project.

As long as everything is lined up with 0 it should fit perfectly together.

I heard I can but a fire wire deal from Alesis and put the alesis hard drive caddy right into it. Then import all the music into computer with protools. If that works ,that is the way to go for me. Supposed to be very fast. Jim

The Alesis HD has an ethernet port. If you hook it to a router, you can extract all the tracks using a web browser or other FTP program. I do this a lot and it works well. I basically followed the FTP instructions in the Alesis Manual and download the tracks in WAV format to the harddrive on my Protools machine. After that, it is very easy to import into PT.

I have a mac and bought the Alesis HD24 because of the fire port. Well on a MAC, it only goes in one direction. you can only export files from the HD into any of the MAC editing software, You can not export the edited files back into the HD which makes the HD24 useless to me in a way. What's more disturbing was the response from Alesis tech support.

"Hello,
What audio editing software are you using?
Also, the HD24 will not accept a stereo interleaved file. They must be
exported as separate mono, left and right files.
This is NOT stated, as there are no reported problems except with ProTools
and Logic. This is not a fault of the HD24, these programs are adding header
information to the audio files that the HD24 cannot understand.
Did you try exporting a file to the MAC, and then importing it right back
to the HD24 drive before writing your e-mail?

What other editing software is there for a mac. I tried it with Digital Performer, same thing. It transfers fine into the computer but not back

What would be the point of sending a file into a mac and then exporting the same file back?

brilliant huh! I sent back another email asking if they intend to fix this. So far no reponse. It says nothing on their site or ads about this glitch.
I love the machine but you gotta wonder about the company. I for one will not buy anything made by them no matter how good it is

There's nothing inherently different between the Mac and PC as far as the Firewire interface goes... I have no problem interchanging tracks between my PC and HD24 and back again...... This makes no sense....

I'm guessing there's a user-error issue here.

hd24

If you read the tech's reply he states that it is a known issue with pro tools and logic. Seems that those programs are adding header info that the HD does not understand.. What's left for a MAc. It doe s the same thing with Digital Performer Here's the reply
