i was looking at some Alen&Heath mixers, and found something weird about their pricing on the WZ16:2DX and the WZ12:2DX. As the name states, one has 12( 8 mono+2 stereo) ch and one has 16(all mono). Now, they both cost the same!

Now, I don't see why they did that...does anyone know anything about this?

ps. Are those effects any good on the WZ14:2??

are u sure they're both the same? maybe it's a typo? those eq's on the A&H mixers rule!

I sure didn't understand their reasoning, but then I bought the 16:2 DX... :)

The other one has some stereo channels, the 16:2 has 16 mono channels.

The effects (assuming they're the same as on the 16:2) are OK, not too amazing.

Where these mixers shine is in their straightforward layout and great pres with a lot of range. All the knobs feel tight and smooth.

fenix:

the only difference I noticed is what I have mentionded, 12:2D has has 8 mono and 2 stereo, 16:2D has 16 mono. one has total of 12 channels, the other has total of 16 channels.

So, would you recommend another Allen Heath mixer that doesn't have those effects? Are they better in anyway or they are the same w/out effects?

You don't have to use the effects. They are controllable on a channel by channel basis through aux sends 5 and 6.
The only other ones they sell are larger consoles for live and studio applications. But I'd recommend the 16:2DX just for the pres and solid construction. If I want effects, that's what the inserts are for.

ahhhhhhhh finally someone with sence whos bought an A & H instead of the usual crap.
Good pres and good eq.

I use my A&H just for the mic pres and eq! Ultra quiet noise floor and the EQ is top notch..very musical and smooth not harsh.

I thought he was talking about the "effects" where they add various types of reverb and delay. I wasn't dissing the 4 band EQ
on each channel. That's part of the 16 "channel strips"....

I guess that's 5 if you count the 100 Hz filter. :)

Sjoko and others,
Are there any A&H mixers you guys particularly like, or are all of them good?

I just got one offered for about $600, can't remember the model name though. GS3, could that be it? It had midi mute, and I think it was 16 channels, 8 buses.

Cheers
/Henrik
