Magic Bag Of Sounds
i just got the newest mono double lp in the mail today. it was recorded by steve albini, as was their last few albums. if you don't know, mono are an awe inspiring instrumental band from japan. they are sort of like godspeed you black emperor but much much much noisier when they all start playing full blast with their pedal boards all lit up.
anyway, i just wanted to appreciate a good hour sitting here listening to this at full blast. i'd like to imagine that this was recorded onto analog, mastered analog, and is now sitting here on my turntable being played through a needle. i can dream?

Check out Steve Albini Forum maybe he mentions it or you can ask him.

Where was it mastered? Since Steve recorded it, its 99.99% sure to have been recorded to tape machines (unless the band brought in their own digital rig and an engineer to run it, which is doubtful). I'd say that given their aesthetic and their decision to record with Steve, its very likely to have been mastered analog as well. Definitely check out his forum though and ask him there. And have fun reading all of the posts there that do nothing more than take Steve to task for his business and ethical decisions.

You might actually have better luck over on Electrical Audio's forum, since the posters there are probably a little more into bands like Mono than the majority of posters at REP.
