i bought these before i had an interest in recording and was wondering if they would be of any use during any part of the recording process?...or must i buy better ones?...they have good low-end sound when listening to cds.

I believe they're "closed ear" cans, so they should be fine for tracking...

I bought the K-66, a few bucks more, because the K-55, did have too much bottom end, in a "loudness button" way.
The K-66 were cleaner sounding all-around, and with the K-55 boom in the bottom-end, I couldn't hear other frequencies as clear. Basically, the bass dominates.

If bass boom is your thing, then go with the K-55 for listening
If you want a headphone for monitoring, then go with the K-66

This is only based on the price range of under $50 US
If you want a better headphone and have $200+, then go for the AKG 240 or Sennheiser HD 280 or higher models

If you have them, use them! At some point you'll pick up something else, too. Don't ditch 'em, they'll come in handy.

I have a set of K66 that deliver really good bang for the buck and are comfortable. And I picked up two sets from Harvey that are cheap and good for tracking. Not as comfortable as the K66 but 1/3 the cost. Everything like this has its place - and it's in the studio, not half under the bureau in my daughter's room! :D (Sorry - I just had a little parental moment. Won't happen again) (unless her room isn't picked up by the time I get home tonight) (well, maybe. She knows I'm a soft touch. Got me wrapped around her little finger) (But didn't I ask her to do those dishes yesterday? How is it that they magically appeared again in the sink before we even used them again?) (insert teenage rolling eyes emoticon here).
