I have one of these in my collection (first mic I bought) and I've seen that Gear On Line are selling them for £105 per pair (ex VAT and Postage. About £135 with). I'd like a set of mics to use for toms, guitar cabs and backing vocals and I was just wondering if anyone's ever used them as tom mics (I've used mine to record vocals, guitar and percussion up to now) and, if so, if would it be a decent choice. If not my alternative strategy is to buy a second M201 for about £100 from Thomann.de and use that and the other 201 on the rack toms; and an MD421 on the floor.

Howdy, the AKG D321 works surprisingly well on hi-hats, giving plenty of body without two much hissy stuff. Have used on floor tom to good effect. Sure they would sound fine on the rack toms too, as would your other choices, so i'm not being very helpful. I've had mine for years with no noticeable sonic degradation and my d321s have been roughed around quite a lot on the road so they are undoubtably durable. hope this helps

Finally it only took close to 8 years to get that answer.
