I am looking to replace my kick drum mic, currently a D112. I was thinking about a D12 but don't know the difference between the d12 and d12e. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Thanks, RD

love D12

i've seen and heard the used the ubiquitous D112 in other peoples' studios over the years, but never owned one.

i have a D12 however and love it.

in my experience, you throw it in front of a kick and it sounds like a warm, solid, old fashioned kick drum.

not that you can't get a good sound out of a D112 i'm sure, but the D12 to me seems more natural. maybe it's just a taste in kick sounds, but i love it.

Re: The EV RE20

I just recently had the opportunity to use the RE20 on my kick at a recordig session. It is a wonderful mic and if I were recording a great many different type of things in my own studio, then I would definitely want it. But it didn't give me enough of a different sound than my ATM25 to make it worthwhile for me.
(I am only interested in mic'ing my drums)

I thought I'd pass that on. Now I realize that the reason that "Tain" Watts drums sound so good when I've heard him play at the Blue Note in NY has less to do with the particular mics used and more to do wth their awesome live sound system there and an equally awesome sound engineer. (You're not even aware you're listening to amplification)

The RE20 IS a great mic, but not worth the price for me.

I'm very happy with my ATM25 on drums also.

Have you compared yours against an Audix D6, or ?? that will provide a more different sound?

IMHO it's the other way around, the D12 has a cable, the D12E has a male XLR.

No need to be humble - I could very well be wrong.
