What do you think of the C4000B for recording male vocals ?...
I was looking for a good sounding, yet non too expensive condenser for recording vocals, then came across the Rode NT1000 which did not go well with my voice (is was too harsh at the highs, and not warm) so I passe it.

Now I think of AKG at the one to spot on, but hoe does the C4000B goes on vocals ? is it warm like many other AKG products ?

Anything close to 414 ?

I'm not a fan. It isn't like the 414 at all. The 2000 is the only usable mic in that line in my humble opinion. There are so many other great mics out right now AT 4047 or 4040, the ADK stuff, CAD, Studio Projects T3, Shure KSM 44, Rode NTK or K2, or the 414.

I think C4000B is close to 414 XLS. Nice mic! Smooth "dark" sound and not too harsh, like Rodes.

Which Rode mic is dark?

On my voice (& a couple others I've tried) the C4000B beats out both the 414 BULS and TL II. I use the 414s more as instrument mics.

That's a fair deal- you pay $200 to not get stuck with a C1000S-LOL. I'm sad to say C4000B is one of the few AKG mics I've never used. From the reports, it's got to be a hit or miss mic, because people seem to either love it or hate it. I can attest that C414B-ULS is a wonderful vocal mic for *some* people, and has lots of instrumental applications. I agree with Kenny that C2000B is the underated runt of the litter. I'd love to get my hands on a C4000 just to check it out.-Richie

i agree

I agree. I've been using the C2000B for a while now and really haven't ever had a problem any way I've used it. It's a great mic for the price in my opinion.

If you compare C4000B and C2000B, there is a difference like a day and night. The lower end is much "bigger" depending on the capsule size. Also there is omni, cardiod or hyper cardioid to choose. Try it!
