What is everyone's opinion on the quality?

Seems to always be my threads that get no response. I suppose everyone that has seen this just hasn't experience with these mics.. maybe I just have bad luck.

OK OK

I've experience of the C2000B & it suffices in the face of nothing else

I used it as an overhead, or I should say the engineer used it because the Rode was on the blink

I have no experience of the perception so can't comment

Wait.. what do you mean by "it suffices in the face of nothing else"? Meaning good or bad

Also, if these are not good in your opinion, could you steer me in the direction of condensors in the $100-200 range that you would recommend? Just something that's warm, and high quality all around in your opinion.

For $250, you can get a MXL V69ME from fullcompass. Nice and "warm", or dark, or just a pleasing tube mic, or however you want to say it. I know maybe over your budget, but then on the other hand you could always try the V67 for about $90-100.

well it's a reasonable condensor but wouldn't use it by choice if say the Rode had been working or I had neumans at my/the engineer's disposal

otherwise it records OK

IMHO, C2000B is an excellent buy in its price rance. It is a small diaphragm mic in a larger housing. It is a little colored, often in a good way. It is useful as a vocal mic, especially for female and backing vocals. It is a good overhead, very good on toms/djembe/conga/doumbek/zarb/bongos. It is fair on acoustic guitar and shines on electric guitar cabs, especially clean cabs. It wouldn't be my choice on low frequency stuff- kick, bass, deep baritone singers.
The perception series is much newer, made in China, not as well known, but the initial impressions have been rather good. Far fewer people have used them, so there is a lot less comment. A lot of people, including myself, do not care for C3000B and C1000S, but there are very few people who have used it who will say C2000B truly sucks. It is a $100-$200 mic, and a rather good one, as they go. I've got about $8,000 worth of mics, and I still keep one around, especially for cabs. -Richie

I just got the perception 200. I really like it to mic up bass guitar cabinets and Vocals. It seems to have really good handling and is nice and clear. My singer is pretty loud, and with the -10 switch on the perception, its hard to make that thing clip.It also has a bass roll off switch to keep your bass clean. That mic can hanlde 145 db. I find the shockmount to pain in the ass though, it works and all, its just hard to get the mic out of it( the angles weird and its tight, but it might just be mine). Its a great mic especially for the price. I never had any experience with the other mic, but i know the Akg percepion models are really selling, mine was backordered for three months, but it was worth the wait. If Check it out man!

I have the perception. It's not the best mic ever but I'm certainly not diassapointed. The shock mount is a cheap piece of shit that broke 3 different ways in a few month. The actual mic is chineese but the quialuty seems good so far and the sound is fairly clean. Not all that sensitive but on the whole I'd say it's worth the money... If you're on a budget the 100 is the same guts minus the switches. Although the pad is pretty useful to have.

Sweet.. very helpful info, thank you guys so much. Now I have something to help me decide. I think there's a good chance I'll get one of these two mics. VERY helpful, I appreciate it a lot.

Yeah I am not big on the c series mics (except of course the c414 and the c12 which are amazing mics) but I haven't really cared for the c1000, c2000, c3000, or c4000. I would go with the perception and give that a shot. OR there is the samson mics believe it or not the CO! and CO3 are some of the best sub $300 mics I have ever heard. I have done vocals, guitars, drums, you name it with a little CO1 and it hasn't let me down yet. I call it my "infantry mic" If I am afraid to put one of my expensive mics in front of something I will slap the CO1 on it. (who cares if it explodes its only $69) I have thrown it (literally) in the back of a Marshall cranked, on a hardcore screamer singer, and even in the sound hole of a 24" kick drum with a double pedal on it. What's shocking is that it has yet to distort on me, and even more shocking it actually sounded REALLY good on everything I threw at it. As for other options, check out the RODE NT-1A ($200) AT 3035 ($200) OCTAVA MK219 (under $100 on ebay usually) All of which I have and love, I have also heard some good reviews on the studio projects C1 which is inexpensive. But remember no mic is great on everything, and I have yet to see many mics that suck on everything (except maybe MXL mics haven't heard one I like but I haven't heard them all so I refrain) Get a decent mic, but get one with keeping in mind that you will get another one soon. You can never have to many mics!!! Hope this helps!

If you trust the reviewers on Musician's Friend, it looks like the Perception gets alot better reviews (you probably already spotted that).

Thank you Hollowdan and Phosphene. Very helpful. The Perception is really taking the lead here.. I'm really leaning towards it and on the verge of placing an order :)
