Before renting anything, why not try choosing from the mics you already have?
The fact is that you never know what microphone will work well on a given source until you try it. You could rent either or both of the above units and get anywhere from stellar to disappointing results.

Isn't the C12 an old vintage mic, from the days of the Neumann u47?

You can just buy a U87 off the shelf, so I'd use the one that's a bit more rare. Of course, pick the one that sounds the best....

The C12 VR is a reissue of the original C12 and is the same in name only. They don't make the original capsule anymore so they tailored the electronics to emulate the sound of the original. By most accounts, they failed.

Hmmm, I see.

I don't have personal experience with either mic, but in that case I'd venture toward the U87ai. Not as good as the original apparently, but still top stuff.

The C12 is around $4000 and the U87ai is around $2500. I'm gonna wager for that kind of money, that either or both will give you a nice recording. ;)

Don't take my statement as meaning that the C12 reissue isn't any good. I have no idea one way or the other. It's just not the same as the original and should be judged on it's merits or lack of same.

If I were to guess .....my thoughts would be that the Neumann would record all of the sources that you mentioned better than the AKG.

Thank you very much guys, after your advices, my experiences and other friend's advices, i will stay with my first tought the neumann
