I brought this mic just over a week ago and ,an I really love it.

I read some independant reviews on this mic and read that James Taylor would tour with this mic and all his backing singers had one too.

When I first held one in my hands I was suprised how small it was but don't let size put you off.
This mic is solidly built and the clarity across the frequency range is very good. You can really let rip or sing nice and gentle and it would pick up the detail in your voice in a flattering way.

Its actually a vocal/instrument mic, but i really love it on vocals.

I find it has a bit more edge then my Shure Beta 87a.

Does anyone else have this mic?

Dave :)

I learned about the C535 from David Wilcox, one of the greatest singer-songwriters of our time. It's performance is very similar to the KMS105, but it is a good deal cheaper. I don't currently own one, but it's on the wish list. It's a good small club mic, and excellent on acoustic guitar. I've never used one in the studio, but I bet it has uses there.-Richie

I have a couple of them. Good all purpose vocal/instrument condenser mic for playing out. A relative bargain and one of the few AKG mics I actually like.

Hi pohaku
I was quite suprised on the price of the AKG C 535 I got mine for £179.00. Wes it at one time more expensive? I know the Audio technica 4033 was originaly a £700 pound mic a number of years ago, I know the C535 has been around for 20 years.
I know the AKG C3000b is not a favorite amoung folks here. I was at first going to get the AKG C1000 but heard they are not that great for vocals but this one i must admit AKG have done a great job on the C 535 .
I think i'll try it on my semi acoustic jumbo tanglewood guitar.
I heard they are great on insruments.
It also has plenty of gain .

The C535EB was my first serious mic. I got it about 15 years ago. I still think it's great and I use it for live vocals. It can be prone to a bit of feedback, but it just sounds so lovely and cuts through and sounds decent on even the most crappy PA's.

I used to use it for all my home studio vox as well, but now I have more mics that i use instead, although I still like it. It's quite bright, but only in thet pre-EQ'd kind of way that gets vocals sounding modern and upfront, but still smooth. Can handle MC's shouting down it and subtle love songs with equal aplomb.

I'll never get rid of it, as it is kind of a part of me now, even though it does not get used as much these days.

I'm actually quite fond of a number of AKG mics, particularly:
C414B-ULS, D112, C2000B, D190, D3800, D770, C451, C535. All of them are at or near the top of their class. The C414, D112, and C2000B are among the best bang-for-buck mics on Earth.

I have to admit I am *not* a fan of C1000S or C3000B

The Perception series are comparable to other budget entry-level Chinese condensers. C4000B and Solid Tube are overpriced for what they do, although perfectly good mics otherwise. C12 is waaay overpriced- I'd rather own a Brauner, Manley, Neumann, Microtech Gefell, etc. in that price range.

I haven't heard the C214, but it's almost the price of a used C414, so I'm not particularly impressed. So in the end, out of the main recording division of AKG, there are 3 mics I think are overpriced, one that the jury is out on, and only two that I generally don't care for. That's not bad, in the greater scheme of things.-Richie

The D112, C414 (the BULS version), the C535eb,and the C460b are among the AKG mics that I like. I find I tend to be more partial to Gefell, Beyer and AT mics generally than their AKG counterparts. And I'm really not impressed with the C1000S and the C3000b, although based solely on Richie's comments I am going to have to try a C2000 sometime.

AFAIK, the C535eb has never been that expensive of a mic here in the States. Street is @$299 but you can find them new for @$239. I bought both of mine used for @$160 or so.
