Seems to be one of the least expensive "legit" mics around. Anyone one know if the slightly cheaper perception series is any good?

I'm thinking mostly for drum overheads in a 4 mics setup. OH + Snare + Kick. I think i want to get something better instead of cheap mics like i already have(MXL 603s, MXL V57M). I also will use them for other stuff but for now mostly overheads.

anyone? AKG seems to one of the few companies that make only high end and cheaper midpriced stuff, so is it any good?

SE electronics SE4 stereo pair or even the SE1s are awesome. They really do an awesome job on the overheads, its what i use! and i love them.
Im getting the SE4 soon, but im using the 1's and like i said they capture exactly what i want.

I've used them dozens of times as overheads (ORTF, x-y and wide-pair). They generally give a faithful recording and good image. I usually set up multiple mic pairs for drum "overheads." As far as condensers go, drummers have often choosen the C2000B and Octava MC012 or MC319 blends. The 603 mics also gets picked, usually for SP B1 or MXL V67 blends.

Somebody recently posted a comment about the C2000B sounding like a poor-man's cardioid 414. A comparison with the new AKG 214 might be interesting.

I haven't seen my C2000b mics for over a year. I lent them to a friend for location recordings of church organs. He's repeadedly offered to buy them but the C2000B isn't as inexpensive as it used to be. I got my pair on sale for $320/pr a few years ago; now they're $580/pr. I would replace them, if that tells you anything. I'd also recommend the CAD M177 or the M179 in the "neutral' category, but, even though these mics fit the neutral description, they do sound different. Go figure.
