To All,
I recently was able to pick up a used Akai X5000 reel to reel to play back all the tapes that I recorded with the band I was in many many years ago. I just got done restoring it (all it needed was some lubrication and contact cleaning, thank goodness the belts and idlers are in good shape). I didn't get a manual with it and the normal sites (HI FI engine) doesn't list the unit. I'm hoping that someone out there may have one of these units and can advise about the capstan sleeve bushing. As a note mine has the short shaft version with the ridged capstan roller. I was able to find out at least that this makes a difference. My question is running the unit at 3 3/4 speed. Does the sleeve need to be installed and do I set the speed switch at high or low. If anyone has the couple of pages from the manual and would be willing to scan them please let me know. I would be in your debt,
Thanks in advance to all!
