Akai X-2000SD ISSUES

Hi all, I am new here and am having some issues with my RTR(Just got this deck tonight). When I put a reel on to play it seems very very slow. I do not have the pitch sleeve for this deck, is that the problem, or is it something more sinister. Also how do you change the tape speed without the pitch sleeve or can you? Thank you.:(
 
Do you know what speed the tape was recorded for? It'll probably default to 3.75ips without the capstan sleeve - if the tape was recorded at 7.5, it will now be playing back at half speed.
