Akai DPS 12...bypassing onboard pre's ???

I gave my bro my old DPS 12 and would like to put some better pre's up front. It seems to me (been awhile since I used it) that hookin up a pre to the inputs just doubled up on pre's and you still had to use the onboards...I dunno...
Any thoughts?

You will need to use a line input to get the maximum benefit out of an outboard preamp, but from the phrasing of your question you (probably) already knew that.

If you can find some line inputs or direct inputs use those. Otherwise you're stuck with 'doubled' pres --- which probably wouldn't be such a bad thing.

yeah, the only inputs I remember on that are the line ins....
But if I'm coming from a decent, clean pre...and then run it thru the onboards (not great)...aren't I kinda defeating my purpose?
I dunno...
