Had no intention of buying a reel-to-reel, but saw this for $20 in a shop corner. It's in beautiful mint condition and everything moves/lights up as they should, got a signal on the VU's when I plugged a mic in; heads look good as far as I could make out. Just haven't run a tape through it yet.

Anyone know anything about these machines? It's only 7.5 inch/sec, so I don't expect it to be anything special, but it'll make a gorgeous studio doorstop!

Steven Bender's Akai pages are a useful source of info. Your GX-370D is here.

This unit was sold in 1973-1974, and those glass heads are virtually indestructable.

I have a GX-265D which dates from 1976-1978 - its a lovely machine. Only 4 track stereo, but the sound is quite amazing. If you're digital it could be a good machine to warm up some tracks.
