anyone kno what to do?

heres the story:

i was opening up my computer to check to see what kind of memory i have (to upgrade or watever). so yea, i plug everything back in...n then my break out box on my delta 1010 doesnt turn on. so i check everything, open it back up, even switch pci slots, in case if it was the slot, turn it on, and it still doesnt work. and this time i get the found new hardware, so i re-install the software. but nothing...no power for the delta 1010 breakout box. what to do??? please help!

1. de-install all drivers manually
2. turn pc off
3. remove souncard
4. start pc
5. turn pc off(yea, again - now your OS realizes that the hardware is actually gone and may remove stuff that hasnt been removed, in spite of driver de-installation..)
6. install soundcard
7. turn pc on
8. install drivers correctly (or run through the setup - or both, if the setup is crap..)
9. however, see if the drivers r properly installed

thats what i would do, according to the problems i had with my soundcard..

thanks...ill try that, but it has been working all perfectly fine until i opened up my computer 2day...n the pci card is workign fine...but normally how my card works is that it turns on when the computer turns on. but its not now...

but yea, ill try that, thanks

I was dinkin' around in my computer and repatching some stuff, and when I went to power back up, I had nothing on the break-out box of my 1010 too.

Long n short turns out I had plugged the wrong adapter back into the 1010.

If all else fails, make sure it's plugged in!

nope, its plugged in correctly...n yea i jus did wat ron82 said, n it didnt work

What does it say when you open the delta control software, does all look normal?

yea it does...when i try to play something, the meters are moving around jus liek it was working normal...but no sound...the break out box is off...

the 1010 usually turns on with the computer (as u kno) but its not at all now..

i also tried putting the soundcard all into another computer...and still, no power to the break out box. now i got the host cable and power cable for the break out box checked, and they seemed to be working fine. now what???

make sure you check the cables.. the power cable too..
my power cable was is but not all the way and my unit wouldn't tern on.. i checked all my connections and it worked fine..

the PSU could've went out or the host cable could be messed up.. i messed up a host cable before and just went to compusa and bought another..

How old is you 1010? perhaps the power supply in it died....

only a few months...i think i bought mine in about may/june.

yea i had the cables checked. and with my power cable, whenever i plug it into the m-audio, it never usually went all the way in...it had a tiny bit still out, and u couldnt push it in any more, and it worked fine.

mayeb the power supply did die...what would i have to do then?

Got a Multimeter? You can find out if the P.S. is dead real quick.

Does it even feel warm? If not is, it plugged in? (sorry, stupid question, but we sometimes overlook the obvious stuff)

If it's dead, you may need to contact M-Audio for a replacement.

For sure, check that multipin cable.

Here's a crazy thought, a longshot: is it possible that the LED on the front is just burned out, and the unit is actually on? Nevermind, theres several LED's on the front, they'd all have to be out.

M-audio/midiman is good with warranties.. just email them or call them and they'll get it fixed for you...

on top of the break out box says:

WARNING: TURN OFF COMPUTER BEFORE PLUGGING OR UNPLUGGING EITHER END OF THE HOST CABLE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO DELTA 1010 AND OR COMPUTER NEITHER OF WHICH IS COVERED BY WARRANTY

now im like 90% sure that i didnt do that, because the only time i would take out the host cable is to open up my computer. and if i'm going to open up my computer, then it would definitely be off. but i guess there might be a possibility..

stupid question:

i have a multimeter, now what do i have to check?

Set it to DCv, and connect the leads to the end of the power cable that goes into the 1010, one inside the end, and the other touch to the sleeve. if your needle moves left its working but the leads need to be reversed. If it moves right you've got it connected right, now make sure you're looking at the right scale on the multimeter to measure the voltage range of the 1010 (9v I think?) Your needle will probably show more like 11v though, because there's no load. If you see this, the power supply's OK.

If it doesn't move the needle at all it's dead.

Also, it should give off some heat too.

Jiggle the power supply's wires while it's connected to the multimeter in case it's just an intermittent connection.

the power supply is fine.

im sending the system into m-audio tomorrow..thanks everyone for all your help
