man i dont know what to get now...

I read of the AARDVARK q10 and its nice

plus zzsounds has it for 30% and free shipping..

I like the fact that it has built in preamps and such and the Hi-Z
inputs for guitar and bass ,etc..

price 750 bucks new ( i couldnt find any used ones on ebay )

A brand new mackie 1402 + a brand new delta 1010 is alot of money..

I saw a few mackie's on ebay
and a few delta 1010 s on ebay

to buy both of them i'll probably speding over 1000 dollars..

i know the mackie is good for doing live stuff

but the shows ( small venues) we play, our instruments are usually not miced since

however when we play at bigger venues, their sound crew does all the work with even better mixers , etc...

so what do you think guys?

home recording purposes and a tight budget ( remember I still have to get mics )

you think I'll make do with the AARDVARK Q10.. I mean I can always sell it on ebay or something if I dont like it.. or if I would rather have the mackie / delta combo....

again guys thanks... i've learned alot from you guys in the past few days...

I understand your dilemma. I had the same one. Here's what I ended up with:

$400 - ST-Audio C-Port
$125 - Old Yamaha Mixer w/ channel inserts and needle VU meters (via ebay) $125

$525 total (minus cables)

The C-Port doesn't have as many bells and whistles, but it does a solid job - I'm happy with it.

Sounds like the q10 will do the job for you. You can always add a mixer down the road if you need one.

The main advantage to a mixer would be if you want to all play at once and need different types of monitor feeds. You can probably get that same result with some creative use of routing in the Q10 and a few headphone amps.

Can I use a headphone splitter with it? You think it'll work?

What I meant to say was headphone amp sorry..

I've never recorded before in my life and will ask this...

Heres a situation :

drummer
bassist
guitarist

all of us have headphones through a headphone amp

( using the AARDVARK q10 )

you think its possbile in the q10 to adjust the outputs?

It depends on the amount of control you need. If all of you are happy with the same monitor mix than it is easy. If you guys all want seperate mixes it gets a little tricky.

If the Q10 has multiple outputs then you could each have your own output on the Q10 hooked up to a seperate headphone amp. You would use 3 different BUSSES in the software to adjust the mixes for each of you and then assign that buss to the output you are using.

There are headphone amps that allow you to have several inputs and then mix them on the headphone amp/mixer. The headphone amp, software, and the number of outputs on the Q10 will determine how much flexibility you have.

Even with a mixer you would still need seperate headphone amps and the number of seperate mixes would depend on the number of busses or Aux sends that are available.

If that is confusing it will probably make more sense when you have the software and card up and running.

This is only if we're playing at the same time right?

I think its fine..

We're not too picky what comes out of the monitors, as long as we can hear it :)

thanks for all your help, its appreciated.
