Hey y'all,

My company has a bunch of boxes of Maxell High Bias tape in storage that's mine for the taking. It's all brand new, but it's probably been sitting there since the early 90s. Would it still be good?

(It's been stored in an air-conditioned library.)

If it's your for the taking, take it. Then try it out. I doubt it will shed all over the deck.

It's Maxell, it should be good, especially if sealed and stored climate controlled. I know Maxell was one of the few brands of reel tape that doesn't shed, even 30 years later.

I've got Maxell XL-II tapes that I recorded back in the late 80's/early 90's that still play as if they were brand new. Take it and run man!

Look for white dust on the edge of the tape. Unwrap each cassette and hold it up to light.

This image shows one cassette from a lot that I bought recently. The white dust is the adhesive, being shed from the tape.

Oh, and how many tapes are there?

Sorry, I didn't see these posts. Thanks for the info on checking the adhesive shed dust. I'll do that.

I took a box of 10 tapes (60-minute), but I think there are two more boxes of 60-minute and three more of 90-minute, all with ten tapes each.
