Age Long CEP & Audition Question!!!??

The issue of latency is something many of us fail to have solved even after years of using CEP (Audition). Please tell me I am not alone in the following.

1) Do you wonder why when you move faders in Cubase, Logic, etc. the volume changes instantly; but in CEP it takes 1 1/2 second to hear the change?

2) Are you running CEP on a fast computer, but the program still treats your project like you are on a 386 Atari with Windows 95??

3) Have you fiddled with the buffer settings and such things the developer recommends you touch, only to find yourself with even worst problems (clicking, dropouts, etc.)?

If you feel this way and haven't received working answers, maybe today will be the day you can unload that CPU sucking CEP alternative. Now the only remaining question is who's willing to put in some time to contribute help to us Cool Edit fanatics. Thank you!
 
Cool Edit, and now Audition, is based heavily on pre-mixing in the multitrack. Possibly the problems you have are related to that ongoing process? Personally I don't have difficulties of the sort you describe (or I haven't noticed them!) - I'm currently using AA1.5 on a 3gig p4 with one gig of memory and at the point where time is really of the essence (mixdown) it goes like a train. I'm still looking on the floor to find the jaw of a ProTools user who saw it in action recently.

I agree, i have not come across any problems like that either. i dont know what he considers fast but i only have an athlon 2500+ on a abit nf7 board with 512 ram and mine funtions flawlessly and quickly. I think the the worst thing someone can do with the program is mess around with the settings when they are really not sure what they are doing,not that he does that, i dont know. Another thing to consider is windows itself, i did notice a big change in performance after disabling some of the unneeded services. It seems xp would like you to run far more crap than needed. The same goes for any applications you may have running in the background. I have a few other digital editors (acid,4.0 soundforge,) and they really do pale in comparison to CEP, but mostly because they are not as user friendly.
 
I agree with you guys. I've got a setup similar to ScottyD's and to steal Ozpeter's line, it runs like a train. MUCH better than CEP/Win98SE.
 
When I run Cool 2.0 on my P4 computer with my old soundcard and Win98, I get an outrageous lag every time I overdub. When I switch to Cool 1.2, there is no noticeable lag.

There are all sorts of variables it seems, and depends on what your system is.
 
If anyone's using Windows 98SE makes sure you enable 'DMA' under hard drive settings in system properties. This will solve the lag problem when recording multiple tracks.

CEP ok for me.

Im with OzPeter... Runing CEP on a 1.4Ghz Centrino 256MB RAM built in soundcard (laptop), CEP runs beautifully... the only catch on using a laptop is not being able to rely on the little speakers (but thats what headphones are for). While i have removed useless crap from xp that is not needed, i havent touched the setting (apart from my desired colour settings).

I find that the correct color setting speeds up mixdowns, enhances stereo spread, and makes acoustic guitars sound "chimier".
 
The main problem I have with Audition is in the multitrack when using the mixer. Everything else pretty much runs fine. When adjusting the faders, it takes the program a few seconds to catch up to the change in volume you just made. For example..... If you have your fader at -10, then quickly push the fader to +6 the volume change wont be present till a few seconds later. In Cubase and similar programs its instant. Hope this clears things up a bit.
 
Is this a hacked version....mine works fine. Sounds like a system issue. I have a p4 2.4 800fsb 512mb or ram.
 
Hmm, here if I drop a fader way down, then double click on it to return it to zero, it does take about a second to react. But I'm not personally fussed by that.
