This is something I put together a little bit ago. It is just a short 30 something second clip. It is an orginal. I have never tried to record anything written by me so I have my doubts. I need another ear so I am asking for everyones help here. The playing is not the best and I dont have a clue about the vocals. I dont claim to be a singer but I really like to write. So please be kind and let me know what you think. Should I finish it? Advice on my voice? thanks

"What do you think" is the title track, lol.

Well it's a good start:)

I would say you have too much room verb in the recording and need the mic's closer to the source. The other thing is that there is to little treble in the guitar and the vocals. If you have pulled hi end try putting it back. If not I would try a hi shelf first from about 3 or 4 k up. try pushing up the hi's a little and see what you get.

The sound of the room might get better with more hi's to.?.?

High frequencies... you know the things that dogs can hear but humans can't.

Try blowing into a dog whistle and recording it with a special dog microphone. Dial in as much of that sound until you feel the hi's are back.

Ok now I've got my arsy answer out my system and actually listened to your recording here's what i really think.

I think that microphone technique and mixing skills don't really apply here. What you need to concentrate on first is fleshing out what is the beginnings of a song into a complete piece.

Don't worry about lyrics if you are new to songwriting just sing whatever comes into your head. Think about whether what you've got at the moment is a verse or a chorus or what? And then just see what comes out after. Don't worry about being original or writing the best song ever or anything just try to come up with something that last 2-3 minutes and has a bit of structure to it.

Don't get me wrong i'm not saying don't record. It pays to record your songs right from the word go... in fact it's very important. But level of recording you are achieving at the moment it perfectly good enough for hearing back the songs you are writing.

So I wouldn't worry about your eq balance just yet.

Your voice has potential I think with a bit of work you could easily describe yourself as a singer if you wanted.

So yes... finish it. Yes.. keep singing to build up strength in your voice and write lots of songs.

All the best.

Well thanks alot Barn Owl that was very inspiring of you. I will continue to do my best. I really just recently got the point where my chord changes are not just a pain to the ear. You have any recorded stuff? I could not find any links. thanks again, peace.

I have recorded but if I told you where to find the music i'd need to kill you.

Don't want to reveal my secret identity now do I. :) :)
