anyone had any experience with any of these models
how are the pres???
how's the eq?? musical? garbage?

ive found some priced to buy locally...and wouldn't mind having the extra channels of pre available

Soundcraft Studio
Soundcraft Spirit 8
Allen and Heath GL2200 ???

what exactly do you want to know? the soundcraft studio is solid for some things, the spirit is good for a budget but lacks some features. The GL has decent preamps, I would say the 2400 has a better sounding pre but has some build and reliability issues as do the newer soundcrafts. The fx16 would bea better choice for the soundcrafts if you are buying new. I do like the studio mixers however if you can buy them cheap enough they are worth at least looking at. What kind of system are you going to be configuring around said mixer?

I'd go for the Allen&Heath. I have an old Soundcraft which I love but I don't think any of those are going to sound like the one I have. I'm considering a A&H for my next board.

basic pro-tools rig...
im looking to start out with the capability of 16 channels of input without going overboard on price...

i have a digi002 rack, and im planning on running 8 channels analog, 8 ADAT (thru a/d converter)

and as far as price, i most likely wouldn't be paying over 700 for any of these

I would avoid the Spirit, and the Soundcraft studio (which is also from the Spirit line actually). If you can find an older Soundcraft (series 200, 400, or 600) it will sound much bigger and will be built MUCH better. The Allen Heath GL's are ok, but nothing too special. Than again, your budget is not too high either, and for $700 or under I think the GL's are well worth the money:)

hi there, just swapped my GL2200 for a Yamaha 03D as i'm doing more studio and video stuff.I found the GL a really good buy esp. if your using it for live work. It's got some great features like the abilaty to swap some or all group faders as aux sends, making life a bit easier visually.i liked it alot but am reaping the awards of the ol' 03D already.

All the best,

Dez

i ended picking up a Allen and Heath GL3 24 channel for 710 in perfect working order...very clean
