I buying a 32 channel Soundtracs Project 8! Woo Hoo!

The problem? Shipping.

Does anyone have any advice on what to watch out for when shipping a mixer? Does anyone have any suggestions as to carriers? I'm assuming this shouldn't, or can't, go through FedEx or UPS.

Thanks,
Brad

I bought a 24track mixer awhile back when UGBM was still selling through their catolog and they shipped it to me via UPS ground... arrived in perfect condition... the main thing is that the mixer is well padded inside the box....

if it isn;t shipped UPS or fedEx, I don't really know how else it would be shipped... USPS might ship it, but for packages, esp bigger ones, they charge an arm and a leg (or at least a whole lot more than UPS/FedEx does)... I don't even know if USPS would ship a package that size...

really UPS ground would be your best method I'd think

I'd agree with that. I bought a very old, heavy 12 channel yamaha from ebay and it was shipped via UPS with no problems at all. They have special rates for larger, heavier packages.

Like jdechant said, the key is packaging - the shipper has to get completely stupid about safely packaging a sensitive item of that weight.

I just bought a soundtracs topaz 32x8 and I love it!!! UPS and Fed-Ex cannot ship packages that big, so it'll have to come by freight. It cost close to $400 for packing, insurance, and shipping for mine. Not cheap, but it got to me safely!

I want to thank everyone for their input on this shipping matter.

I made a very tough decision and chose not to buy the Soundtracs board. Instead I took advantage of the pricing that Full Compass has on a new Panasonic DA7 digital mixer with meter bridge and 3 ADAT cards.

It arrived yesterday. Now I just need a RME card and I'm SET :)
