I'm using a BOSS Doctor Groove DR.202 Drum Machine

I was wondering if anyone has any links on how to program "real sounding" drumloops. By this I mean what can I do to make my loops sound more real and less robotic. I heard that using two different snares and bass drums helps and also programming a few different Hi Hats but how do I do this?

Should my main snare have more reverb than the second snare?
Should the second snare be lower in the mix or should i record it at a lower velocity?

I guess I need to find a starting point ad go from there.

Again if anyone can help or post some links it would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
PKarate

I posted this thread about a year ago. I just wanted to bump it up again.

I'll bump it too. Poor guitar player over here trying to program drums. . .they sound pretty bad, haha. Maybe a post to a link or something, or, if one of you gracious drummers out there wants to give us some pointers, we'd greatly appreciate it. I just use the LM-7 vsti in cubase and program my drums in the software.

heres an idea. record your drum machine samples into the pc as small wave file samples. then try a free program i use called HOTSTEPPER.
VERY ADDICTIVE PROGRAM. lets you sequence samples and its free.
then export the drum track into your favorite audio sequencer. i use powertracks. Hotstepper will even let you TUNE samples up or down for weird effects.
just try it. might float your boat.
peace.
