Any advice on assembling a portable DAW? I don't have a room to convert into a home studio, and have a starter budget of $5000. Main uses will be related to producing audio plays - not so heavy on I/O or DSP, but need lots of editing options, with midi for soundtrack. However, I'm also a musician, and want a versatile system that could come in handy for composing / gigging / mixing situations. Here's what I'm looking at:
1) ibook 1ghz 640mb ram -- QUESTION: is a 133mhz system bus fast enough?
2) logic pro -- I'm used to protools LE but have been frustrated by inability to customize, and need better midi sequencer.
3) yamaha 01x -- is this really as good as it looks? firewire I/O for audio & midi, AND control surface, AND stand-alone mixer...
4) alesis QS6.1 - need as master keyboard for control of softsynth, but it also has some good onboard sounds for gigging. Painful to give up full keyboard, but want aftertouch for composing.
