I have a Pearl Export kit with a Tama maple snare and I've got a really nice kick and snare sound. However, I've been struggling with getting a great toms sound for two months now. I'm restricted to this kit and the room I'm in. I've been recording for almost 10 years, so I know what I'm doing. several overhead techniques, close micing, minimal micing, you name it. I just can not get this kit in this space to sound the way I want, and I've tried it all. I don't use my PC for anything but light-duty mastering, so this leads me to a drum module. I've read great things about the Roland TD series all over this site. Which one could I get by with? TD-8? A lower model (is the TD-5 too cheesy?)? I want modern and acoustic sounding toms, nothing 80's (bite me Alesis DM4 & DM5!!). I don't need the best of the best, but it has to be pretty good. Also, I'd prefer more than stereo outputs incase I want to trigger my kick down the road. The snare will stay....okay, give me the skinny gang. Thanks.
