Hey guys,

So Iv'e been bedroom recording for a number of years just using an old pioneer mixer plugged into the sound card and an sm58 attached. I have managed to get pretty decent sound quality out of this over the years, but I finially am deciding to invest a bit of money into some equipment as I am traveling to the US in a couple of months and figure I can probably get stuff cheaper there.

Anyways, I currently have a very capable PC that I upgraded to last year, I put a Creative Fatality Pro sound card in it as I use it for gaming to, and also have some Creative z5400 5.1 speakers, and some decent headphones for when recording, and use Cubase as my software.

Also, as a small sidenote a have been having Latency issues when monitoring a recording since upgrading to this PC, I am not sure if it is the soundcard, but it is something I am insistent on fixing and am willing to upgrade any component for (I have tried messing with he ASIO latency settings in cubase which helped a little, but not completely)

Ok, so down to the nitty gritty, Basically I was thinking about picking up a NT1-A mic with a decent mic stand that has an acoustic panel, and also upgrading the soundcard (if need be) and getting some kind of interface to run the mic through.

Any suggestions on what I should get or anything I am missing or don't need or if i need to upgrade the soundcard etc. would be aweosme, any opinions/help is appreciated.

I would probably be willing to spend around $2-5k, but no need to go nuts if it is unnecessary.

Cheers

Start with an interface (they dont need or use soundcards) - read the intro sticky thread. With that budget you can get plenty - nice set of monitors, some good mics - research the mics before you pick - try the mic forum - should be all you need

what instruments are you recording? how many tracks you need to record at once? is it all one-man-band stuff? that will determine what mixer/interface you need
