My singer and I have been working on this the past couple of days. I am fairly new at recording and am a perfectionist, so I can use all the help I can get. My main conerns with this so far is the chorus vocals (which sound thin and shrill to me) and the arrangement. Playin the song live it sounds fine, but on here something doesn't seem to match up right, with bass it seems like. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yup, the chorus was kind of a shock...I'm no expert and am on pc speakers w/ sub, but that was really far too abrupt of a sonic shift there...you got the distorted guitar blasting in from the right predominantly and suddenly the vocals and guitar are overpowering the whole thing.

I think you have the right idea in that the chorus would typically fill out a bit and stand out from the verses, but you gotta ease this back considerably to make it fit. I would strive to get the chorus a bit more in line with the verses rather than the other way around of that helps any, 'cause despite all the volume, the chorus does sound pretty thin by comparison.

I thought the verse section sounded pretty decent (if a bit sparse) although I could've done with less vocals FX...

Here's what I hear;
Vocals on the verse are more in the middle (good), but it sounds like you've doubled the vocal track and time delayed the right channel a bit. Correct? It's not an effect I'm real fond of. Kind of muddies it up. The level is good. If you want to thicken it up, you could double, compress and mix wet/dry to taste, or even re-amp through a different pre.

On the chorus, the split vocals seem panned way too far right and left, and are too loud. I'd keep the vocals more in the middle and pan instruments to fill out the field. I think it will sound better.

I like the song. Nice work.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I made some changes. I still think there may be too much goin on in the chorus effects wise but I think it's starting to sound better. Can anyone give anymore suggestions? Here is a new link...

Much, much better. Sounds night and day better than the first one.
