Hi all,

Can anyone advise me on minimum specs for recording audio on a pc. Just now i have a pentiumIII with, i think, a 650 celeron and 128ram(not ddr) also a 60gb hard drive and a g-force II titanium graphic card. I also have a g-force II mx lying around as well. With this i am using an audiophile24/96 sound card. I want to upgrade and still use my audiophile. Can anyone advise me on what i will need to run a good stable audio recording pc. I realise i will probably have to buy a lot of new hardware, probably a whole new pc apart from my soundcard which i am quite happy with. I am aiming at getting a mixer with an s/pdif out that will hook up to my soundcard. Thanks........J.

Whats your budget? I just upgraded and got the following for about $425:

-AMD Barton 2500+ (Newegg.com)
-ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard (Newegg.com)
-512MB DDR 400 RAM (I will get another 512 very soon) (Newegg.com)
-Maxtor 160GB hard drive (7200 RPM, 8MB cache) (pricewatch for prices)
-128MB Video 8X video (pricewatch for prices)

This will sufice me, and for just over $400 you can't go wrong. However, if you have money to burn there are much nicer setups you can get. Let us know your budget so we can get an idea of where to steer you.

I just upgraded mine for a total of about £300 (more expensive in the UK than the States).

AMD XP2600+
ABIT KR7 board
512 MB Ram
New HDD, CD Writer and DVD drive

Just used the old case, ended up having to buy a new power supply as well - the only bit of the old machine in there is the floppy drive!

Never done that before - very interesting process, not really difficult and much cheaper than buying new. Here's a good link to how to do it:

My budget will be 250-300 british pounds. I have a mainboard in front of me rite now that i got from a mate but dont know what type it is. He said it will take up to a gig in ddr. Is there anywhere on the motherboards that tell you what type they are?
