I'm in the early phases of building a house and I plan to dedicate one of the rooms as a studio for home recording/jamming. I'm looking for some advice on what things can be done to the room to optimize the room acoustically before the framing stage begins. The room is only 13 x 16 but has a large closet which could either be used as a vocal room with a glass window to the rest of the room or I could cut the closet in half and increase the size of the room to 13 x 18 with a smaller closet.
I'm currently using my downstairs dinning room which has hardwood floors and sounds great acoustically. Should the new room have hardwood floors, carpet, both? What about wall insulation and wiring. I've noticed in some rooms in my current house the electrical wiring in the room causes a lot of amp noise. Is there something that can be done in the new room to minimize the noise? Thanks for your feedback!

The guys in the forum at John's site are fantastic. Give them some idea of your budget, some sketches of your space available and some idea of your goal and they'll definately get you going in the right direction!

Sorry, I don't mean to slag anyone here at this forum, I've just found that site really helpful for myself, and I love spreading the news about good things - I talk about this site over there as well!

John Sayers also visits here...
