Hopefully we're all on the same page with the word "brain" here. :p

Looking for something in the 300$-400$ range.

It's not for a complete electronic setup, it's just for one trigger i have in my acoustic kit. So im not looking for something with "drum sounds" necessarily, but more for sounds...different sounds.

Can anyone recommend something?

You can get a used Alesis DM5 on Ebay for under $300 these days. I wouldn't recommend it for killer drum sounds (for that I'd go with Roland) but for your needs it should be just the ticket you're looking for.

I would agree an Alesis DM5 (or even a D4) would meet your buget. Keep in mind - in additon to the cost of the brain you need pads and a way to mount the pads (all come with additional costs)

Depending on the sounds you want/need, the space you have (assuming you want to place the e-drums with your accoustics) and your playing style - you could even consider some of the tabletop "consumer" units.

I used a Yamaha DD14 for a couple of years - simply to add latin percussion sounds to my kit The pads were only 4" and the case was plastic (so I had to use some care in handling and sticking) and I had to canabalize a snare basket to mount it with my kit - but it did the job until I moved to a drum kat and later to the Roland.

Go to the wizard, surely he could give you a brain.

Ok, i had to. Anyhoo the Roland TD-6 is decent for the price. It's not quite as adjustable as the higher end Roland brains. But has most of the same sounds.
