i am thinking about replacing my sunn beta lead. i heard some really good things about carvin mts3200 and x-100 heads, but then again i have also heard some really horrid opinions of them. also, i was considering buying a randall rh-100(or whatever the name is, all i know is its 100 watt solid state amp) due to the reliabilityfactor of tube amps vs. solid state amps. oh, by the way, my style of music is prog/industrial rock( think tool, static-x, pink floyd, black sabbath). any opinions on these choices would be greatly appreciated.

mfi u want a good ssolid state amp..the salesmen at the local gc said that the solid state crate gfx head is good for modern tones.. i dunno if thisll help but thats what he told me

le tme know how it goes

yea the gfx212, i like the sound, i don't like the combo though.

DEFINITELY check out line 6 ax2, this thing models anything, maybe not with tube tone, but sounds damned good, and will suitify all your needs...just got it and i'm raving like mad, even though i don't fully know how to use it to its fullest abilities (its been 3 weeks)

You think the ax2 sounds pretty good? I've been looking at a Cybertwin once I get back to the mainland but I'm also interested in the ax2. None to demo here so I'll wait. Glad to see that you were able to pick it up though musicdarkangel. Cheers

well, i listened to a demo of the carvin mts 3200 today on the carvin.com and it sounded pretty damn good. as for the crate, i have played around with one of their half stacks and really didnt care for it. it sounded a little to sterile. i am really looking for something that can get that heavy chunk, but still have good dynamics so it will respond to my picking. i havent had the chance to use the line 6 combos yet, but i have played with the POD pro which sounded good except for the pause between patches. i think i am gonna go try out one of those new marshall valvestates, maybe the avt 150. thanks guys.

I have to fall in with the line 6 group. In case you haven't noticed, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath aren't exactly to same stuff! Not the Crate, noooooooooooo, Mr. Bill (okay, I'm old). And the POD is something I'd put between almost any axe and almost any amp- Richie

yes ritchie, i realise that floyd and sabbath are two very different musical entities, but so are too and static-x. i was just stating that my music has elements in it that are influnced by all of those groups. it may not seem like it would work, but once i get it all recorded(that'll be sometime this fall, because the school i am going to has a really nice studio that i can use) i will send you some samples if you'd like. well, as for the amp situation, i am just not sure about the line 6 stuff. maybe i havent tried enough of it yet. but i am really thinking about trying out a randall, to see of that will suit my needs.

I dont know anything about Static-X, but if your going for Floyd, Tool and Sabbath, I would say go with tubes all the way. Why model when you can get the real thing. Ive been playing with tubes for years and yeah Ive had to replace the tubes every so often, but All of my amps have been reliable as hell. One of my amps was the Carvin MTS-3200, and I loved the thing. Not incredibaly versitile, but it had a great tone and a nice thick crunch to it. Plus you can re bias the tubes to go for the Marshall-esque EL34's, or the Fender-esque 6l6's.
I would say go to your local music stores and try out some Soldono, VHT, Hughes & Kettner and Mesa stuff. To me, all of these companies make great, tight, amps with hard distinctive distortions. Most have 2-3 channel models. Good luck.
Hope this helps.

yeah Todd, i was actually looking around today for a decent tube amp that wouldnt kill my bank account. oh yeah, wayne from static-x uses marshall valve states. but anyway, i was wondering about mesa/boogie dc-5's or dc-10's. i found some for about 600-1000 bucks. i havent found any in local stores to try out though. i just cant decide whether i want that saturated boogie sound, or the marshalley crunch. i suppose if i had 5 grand i would buy a deizel, but wouldnt we all? i heard that the carvins could get some pretty nice crunch sounds too. i wonder...well, thanks anyway.
