Can someone tell me why so many artists sell their cd on cdbaby and lose 4 bucks to each cd when they can set up a merch acount on paypal for free, which can accept credit cards now also?

doesn't cd baby automatically get you on iTunes too?

Has anyone had any good expiriences with cd baby? Maybe people do it because it simply seems more legit? I dunno.

If you're trying to get every possible dollar, you'd set up CDBaby, give them the minimum number of CDs to get yourself on iTunes, write off the cost of the CDs as a business expense (consult a tax advisor first, though), and sell CDs directly from your website via PayPal.

On the other hand, if you don't want to mess with the order fulfilment, CDBaby does have the advantage of handling the individual CD mailouts for you.

aha, that sounds smart!
So cd baby gets your music on itunes.....And it's hard to do that yourself?

and I thought PayPal took money out of anything you received???
else, how do they get a profit?

that's how all my ebay sales have worked.

AFAIK, Apple only deals with labels, not individual artists, so hard probably isn't the word.

2.9% + $0.30 is a lot less than $4/CD.

CDbabys digital distribution is what makes it worthwhile... Gets the music onto itunes worldwide (not just your region) and a load of othere digital wholesalers..

e.g. I've a CD up there thats available via 41 different digital companies:

Apple iTunes http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=152387041
