I was wondering if someone could answer this question...

How can I record my voice over a song using Adobe Audition?

If this is not possible, is there a better program out there that would allow me to record my voice over a song?

It's really simple to do what you are requesting, but a few tips first...

1) There is a forum for Audition in this forum under it's former name of Cool Edit Pro.

2) If you're going to use pirated software, at least make it less obvious - pirates aren't the most popular gang around here. ;)

...and now for your answer: simply go into the multitrack view and load the song in Track 1 at it's beginning position. Next, press the big R on track 2. Finally, press the standard Record button at the bottom of the program (the big red circle) and start singing/talking.

Heya,

Any multitrack audio recorder will allow you to record over a song. You'd just insert the original sound on one track, and arm another track for vocal recording.

But if you are talking about removing the vocal from a song and singing over it, that's a completely different story.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

That link is to the free and surprisingly good open source project called Audacity.

Thank you for your answer!

I apologize, but I don't know what you mean by pirated software. I actually downloaded and purchased Audition from the official website. If what you mean is me trying to pirate a song by recording my voice over it, then I agree, but in this case is just to put some vocals over a beat that my neighbor did using fruity loops.
It is set as an MP3 track but we don't know how to record anything over it.

Again thanks so much!

Thank you !!

That is a very useful link!

And no, I don't want to remove any vocals, as this is an instrumental track.

Thank you both! very kind!

Excalibur,

I apologize if my assumptions were incorrect about your pirating Audition. I just found it unlikely that you spent $300 for a software that you didn't know one of its most basic functions. Again, my bad man.

Let us know if you need any more help.

Thanks aaroncomp,

Actually is on my neighbors computer and hes on vacations which is why 'm asking this. I'm kind of playing around with it, but know nothing on how to use it.

And I totally know and understand what you mean about people going out and making illegal use of applications like this, it's just not right.

Regards!

One last question...

Once you have recorded the vocals over it, how can you join the two recordings (Track 1 & 2) togeather?

This should be the last question.

And if I have any other questions I'll make sure to post them under the right forum (Cool edit pro) as you mentioned.

Thanks in advance!

Just use "export as/bounce to disc/bla bla bla" I Never used Adobe so, you just have to mix it down.

After you have recorded the vocal track, if you don't plan on adding any effects, etc., just adjust the volume of the 2 tracks to your liking. Then, go to File>Export>Audio and select the format you desire (.wav, .mp3, etc.)
