I've just recently purchased AA about 3 weeks ago have read through the manual and have tried used using some of the effects and tools. Currently I'm recording to a mr8 from a behringerub802 mixer and micing my fender hot rod deluxe with a shuresm57. I transport the audio to aa. My questions are:

1. What are some of the best effects and tools for AA. for example, limiter, compression, and eq. It's it best to tweak the knobs myself or are any of the presets good?

2. I've also installed simuanalog on it. As far as other amp modelers go, do I have to record thru a soundcard to apply a desirable amp sound or can I do it in the mixing process with a clean or semidisorted recording?

They're all useful. They're tools which help get the desired sound.

Presets are good starting points as guidelines especially if you're new but tweaking is the only way to perfect the effect :D . Each song will be different so its foolish to think that one preset will work for all.

Not quite sure what you're asking here. If you mean to apply an amp modeler plugin effect on a track then it's probably best to record it clean and apply the effect after recording. You cant have the plugin going when you are recording in realtime. You have to apply it the guitar track after its recorded.

Yes, what Tukkis said. Plus:

"What are some of the best effects and tools for AA."

Learn how to use EQ - it's essential. Then learn how to use the compressor (dynamics processing). It's really useful. Then learn how to use reverb tastefully.

"Yeah it won't happen overnight but it will happen!" :D

Just take small steps. Don't be intimidated by all the effects. Try tinkering with the different knobs in each and hear the difference.

Go to the MP3 Mixing Clinic here at HR.com and get in on the mix contests...they are very helpful.
