I currently have two ADK SL's I got off a tip. Good mics, real quiet. A bit bright. I liked the stereo sound with these mics vocally, but not for my guitar. Lacked detail. But I am new at this and have no business giving opinions
.
Anyways, the cd has been recorded, and now I am looking towards a set up I can use live as the priority but not abandoning recording. having a small diaphragm for the guitar seems to be a popular route. Through researching and budgeting I'm starting to look at a Rode NT1 with an NT5.
All of my live playing, and most of my recording is acoustic guitar and singing. There might be occasional instrumentalists/vocalists, and I like the large diaphragm for those situations. My vocals are 'deep' and 'rough' compared to say what you might expect from a coffee house guy. I have a Shure Sm7 I'm keeping because it's awesome, ha ha, and I want to try it live to see how I do with it.
After listening to the examples on flatpick.com with their sdc shootout, I crave a Josephson c42. Sweet goodness. That high end is awesome, too pricey though. Anyone know of some similar mics?
What do you guys (who have used either of these mics) think? Are there other options you would prefer? I liked recording in stereo, but live performance is more a priority now. Which gets me to thinking I might want a hyper cardioid sdc instead... hmm... choices choices.
