I've always wondered why those things were there. they were always just the type of things that you dont touch and just appreciate the fact that they work.

how about 0.48/52 on an ibanez 550? bridge settings, mine are high (no buszz) but works, yeah, for that korny crunch metal uses today...

i use 0.11 at the top end, sound nice, if they only made an 0.9 that sounded like a 0.13, my fingers might go dead in 6 minutes

If you tune down heavy srtings are the way to go. I never go out of tune with my floating bridge no matter how hard I pull it up or dive bomb using .013's. When I played .010's they would break or go out of tune very quickly.

But i stick to .010's on my guitars that are at standard 440 tuning.

Actually I read in a mag I bought that Stevie used a custom set, not a 13 set and he had a 13 for a while on the high E but not all the time. He sort of had heavier strings at the top and then a heavy one on the bottom I assume to balance the stress on the neck. I'll dig it up, it a repair book authored by a well know guitar tech.

k, here it is, I was off on the part about "13 for a while" although the guy mentions that on the day he checked out the guitar it had an 11 subbed in.

Overall that's really not that heavy, especially detuned. I'm really surprised to learn that two of my guitar heros (Hendrix as well) use plain Gs, I could have sworn that that was a wound G in Couldn't Stand the Weather.
