Adjusting waveforms so they do NOT pass the white horizontal lines?

Hi everyone,

Ok I need a little help with Audition 3. I have a WAV file (same song) but from 2 different sources... One is obviously not touched at all, but the other is edited (sorry i don't know what effect is used) so that it does not pass the horizontal white lines on the tops and bottoms of the waveform in Edit View.

Here are images of what I mean, I'd like to know what do I need to do to get the effect of the waveform that doesn't pass the white lines?

How do I do this?

One quick way to achieve that is with hard limiting.

Click on EFFECTS > AMPLITUDE > HARD LIMITING then set the amplitude limit to be at -1. (That is, I am guessing your white line is set at -1 dB.)

I got the -1db part that makes perfect sense and worked. My next question is, by looking and comparing the two different waveforms I posted is there a way to tell what values to use for "Boost Input By", "Lookahead Time", and "Release Time"?

I would use the following.

Boost = 0 (This feature will raise the overall volume prior to limiting the peaks)(rarely needed)
Lookahead = 7 (This aides in pre-calculating where each peak begins and ends)(a delicate balance between necessity and redundancy)
Release = 100 (This forces limiting recovery after peaks go below threshold)(based on the size of the transient peaks)

There is more to those descriptions but I really tried to simplify this answer assuming that you are a beginner.
